Nos seus tempos de Nova Iorque, Kate tornou conhecida como "The Only Woman Caricaturist" (A Única Mulher Caricaturista).

Mary Williams, who used the pseudonym Kate Carew, was born in Oakland in 1869. She studied at the San Francisco School of Design, and started her career in illustrating in 1889, when she was employed by the San Francisco Examiner. A year later, she moved to New York where she worked for The New York Globe, illustrating interviews with caricatures of the rich and famous. She also created several comics for this newspaper, such as 'The Angel Child'.
Kate Carew's caricatures and interviews became so popular that she was sent to Europe to make the series 'Kate Carew Abroad'. In 1911, she settled in London and started working for The Patrician and Tatler. When World War I started, Kate Carew moved back to the States and continued working for newspapers such as The New York Tribune. By the late 1920s, her health and eyesight were fading, and she returned to California to devote herself to fine art.
During her days in New York she was known to fame as "The Only Woman Caricaturist."
She died in 1960, at the age of 91.
